Anish Kapoor fries brains

Once we had the genius of Michelangelo-

Then we came down a bit to Rodin. No Michelangelo but he made us think -

Now we have the monstrous idiocies of Anish Kapoor-

For some reason he is back in India and the various intellectual/media asses elites are falling all over to applaud him. What is it about modernist 'art' that freezes all brain activity in otherwise 'normal' people, especially educated elites? Do they not have eyes? Can't they see that Anish Kapoor has no more artistic talent than my pet snail and probably less? What are the mysterious rays that Kapoor and his ilk are giving off that completely fries obsevers' brains? Or are the brains toast already and ready to take the mouldy cheese of Kapoors 'art'?

Is it too much to expect just a bit -a tiny, itsy-bitsy bit of sanity from these people?

Yes a lot of modern and postmodern art might not be that good. Just like a lot of pieces that are representational . Great art is rare in any time. You may be able to nominate a few artists as being great every century or so.

But you seem to dismiss all art that distorts from reality or is not representational (modern or post modern art). Most often art that attempts something new creates controversy.Even of artists that someone like you might admire from the past, many of them would have faced difficulties in breaking simple norms of their time. I don't mean that novelty is the meter to judge art (and yes a lot of artists do cave into the pressure of trying to be novel or intentionally try to create controversies). But there is a lot of modern and contemporary art that is beautiful if you are open to the experience. Yes some of it breaks aesthetics that be are comfortable with.
And time will be the judge, it is always easier to accept things in retrospect.

Even Neo Impressionists faced a lot of slack when they drew influences from Japanese prints that were graphic.

The art crowd whom you refer to as the wine cocktail crowd have been around for a very long time, even patronizing artists you are fond of.And they possibly never really got it even then.

I feel that a lot of the work you talk about harshly here cannot be judged by looking at photographs, they involve other senses. SOme art is not merely visual. And understand that art is not a medium for mass manufacture, so pieces that you don't like personally may be appreciated by others.Diversity is important and the world is beautiful when a variety of ideas are allowed to grow. There is room for every kind of art in the contemporary art domain.

I feel that a lot of people just approach art with the wrong attitude. I think that if you do not approach every piece by trying to evaluate an artists skill, or worry about how much it costs or how popular it is you might actually feel something. And even if you don't you should have the grace to look for something that you do. It is fine to criticize work that you don't like, but you do so in a language that is childish and fascist ("nd still they would not even be worthy of lickng clean your ass".

All art doesn't have to be a window to the world. And just because an artist's approach, idea or aesthetic varies from yours doesn't mean that you should disrespect them. Quite A few artists who choose to distort are actually very skillful at representational work (many of them are much more skillful than yourself), It is just a choice.

Yes I do agree, you are such a bitch!

I happened to stumble upon your blog.
If you look at Rodin as a come down from Michelangelo, I wonder what sort of an imbecile you are. You seem to have no understanding of art and no genuine appreciation. You just seem so caught up and distracted by the money, business and all the down sides of the art world (that exist in all institutions) that you fail to experience anything.

I think a ranting raving fool like you should realize your own work is not that inspiring. Its average, not terrible, but I dint think it justifies your huge pompous head.

Anony-mouses,

Thanks for such immense affection. I love you too.

Anish Kapoor fries brains - your comments proved the point!

artists work to showcase their ideas, desires, and views on everything visual and compelling. Peoples intellects create the interpretations on art. This is anish kapoors chance to make up some stupid shit, showcase it, get feedback, sell it for millions, and yet he still wins because his name and talent matters more than you. And ill go ahead and say his "talent" and skills to create art are pretty good, because he makes i dont know way more money than your dog

compare yourself to Michelangelo before you criticize others.

Get over it, people. I miss the days when art could be about the viewer instead of the artist. Do you really enjoy looking at the crap people produce these days and pretending you "get" it?
Thanks for this blog, I enjoy the art, it takes my breath away.
